I am a ninja and I have 48 lives. I am a foreign exchange student from China, and I spent six years on studying in the United Stated. During daytime, I live a life as an excellent student who spending time only on studying. You may think my life is very boring; nonetheless, I dress like a ninja and fight crimes during nighttime. I lived a life as a hard working undergraduate in the Palomar College, which I gain self-confidence in outstanding academic achievements. I was so optimistic that I thought I would definitely become a professional nurse. Nonetheless, I was rejected by nursing school of California State University San Marcos and forced to switch my major to kinesiology in 2013. Consequently, I lived a life as a pessimistic loser and could not focus on studying until I started exercise physiology class with Dr. Newcomer. All of a sudden, a boring and pointless class raised my interest in kinesiology and opened my eyes with my future career options. Afterwards, I started my life as an encouraged undergraduate and rebuilt my confidence with assisting my classmate improved her test score from a failing grade to 98. During my last semester, I signed up with Dr. Newcomer and lived a life as a surf study research assistant. During the internship, I worked with another fifteen surf research interns on surf study projects, which I gain confidence in working with diverse populations. Surfing was not considered as a sport in Asia; furthermore, benefits of surfing were never noticed by Asia public. Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death globally, and prevention is better than cure for chronic diseases. I would like to discover health benefits of surfing; therefore, I chose to work with Dr. Newcomer for my OPT after I graduated from CSUSM in August 2015. Now, I lived a joyful life as a research assistant and a teaching assistant. I do what I love and I love what I do Life was full of surprises; however, all my experiences have become key aspects of my life, and each of them molded me to become the individual I am today. I appreciated tough times, which made me stronger and lead me to the right place. I am looking forward to learn and experience more during my OPT. The Ninja’s life, to be continued. |
